Well it seems as though guys at Gexa (Retail Electricity provider) certainly did.
They had to cough up $400,000 as a fine for using unlicensed software, plus they had to pay for all the licenses they were using that they hadn't paid for which isn't smart.
Not to mention the inconvenenience and bad press this has brought Gexa, along with the customary witchhunt for the victims/culprits.
It shows once again that using unlicensed software will get you a significant fine, a career hiccup (who knows how many lost their jobs over this one!) and a lot of unnecessary bad press and publicity, all of which can be avoided. See the full press details in the Houston Business Journal at

We hear that the $US 200,000 reward scheme is flushing out all sorts of organizations and more organizations will be "named and shamed" in the press shortly as they hit high profile organizations.
Don't let your organization fall foul of the tactics being used!
