We are a County government agency. We perform financial statement & Compliance auditing related to state grants for various County Departments.

On a couple of audits we stated AICPA standards in the report. An issue came up related to independence. WE titled our autitor's report " Independent Auditor's Report ". Our division reports directly to the Auditor-Controller who is an elected official. Also, we don't perform or have access to any of the County accounting functions - perparing or posting financial transactions.

Curious for feedback if we can consider ourselves independent under AICPA standards.
